Demonstrate the action and palpate the tendon of Abductor Pollicis Longus on a model in the Anatomical position with a time limit of one minute.

Objective No 62 - Criteria to be demonstrated.

1. Request the model to fully extend the Thumb joints against maximal resistance with the Elbow joint flexed to ninety degrees and the Hand in a position midway  between the full range of pronation with the Thumb superior.

2. Request the model to maintain the position of the Thumb in full extension ,and request to abduct the Thumb to a position of full abduction  ensuring that  the movement takes place in a direction which is at a right angle to the plane of the palm.

3. Observe the position of the Extensor Pollicis Brevis tendon forming the anterior boundary of the Anatomical Snuff Box.

4. The tendon of Abductor Pollicis Longus lies in a position  which is  parallel and immediately anterior to the tendon of Extensor Pollicis Brevis as it passes to its distal attachment on the lateral surface of the Base of the First Metacarpal bone of the Thumb.
