Identify by palpation and surface mark with a pen the position of the Hamate bone on a model in the anatomical position with side lighting and a time limit of 15 seconds.

Objective No 17 - Criteria to be demonstrated.

1. Request the model to flex the elbow joint to a right angle.

2. Identify the Pisiform bone (Objective No 16).

3. Palpate a point approximately 2.5 cms distal to the Pisiform bone on the palmar surface of the hand in the direction of the cleft between the fourth and fifth fingers.

4. Apply firm pressure with the finger tip and the a bony projection can be identified deep to the Hypothenar muscles.

5. This bony projection is the Hook of the Hamate bone.
