Demonstrate the action and palpate Flexor Pollicis Brevis on a model in the Anatomical position with a time limit of one minute.

Objective No 68 - Criteria to be demonstrated.

1. Request the model to place a Hand on the table with the Palmar surface facing upwards.

2. Surface mark the position of the Trapezium (Objective No 18) and the shaft of the first Metacarpal bone.

3. Surface mark the position of the Base of the proximal phalanx of the Thumb.

4. Request the model to Flex the proximal phalanx of the Thumb parallel to the plane of the palm against maximal resistance.

5. Part of the muscle belly  of Flexor Pollicis Brevis may be palpated on the medial aspect of Abductor Pollicis Brevis as it passes to its distal attachments on each side of the base of the proximal phalanx of the Thumb.
